Shock...Awe....Utter Amazement...pick any positive adjective that you can think of, and it won't even begin to describe the way I feel...I saw Dr. Hanyon about a week and a half ago, and haven't stopped smiling since...and I don't think I'll be able ANYTIME in the near future...while we're still not quite finished with the entire transformation, we're definitely in the home stretch! He put the rest of my permanent caps in place and as a result, I feel like a whole new person has emerged! I honestly have to remind myself that I no longer have to cover my mouth or attempt to hide my teeth when I smile...but in knowing and realizing that, it's honestly, the best feeling in the world! You don't realize how inhibited you are when you can't smile freely...I swear the man is a magician...how else could you manage the transformation that he has?

Say it with me!!! OMG!!! So, I am super-excited! Dr. Hanyon's office called me today and informed me that the rest of my permanent caps are scheduled to come in tomorrow afternoon...and they wanted to set up an appointment for me to come in.....sooooooooooooo....Friday is the big day!!! Woohoo!!! I can't possibly imagine how my smile can get any better than it is right now, but I also believe Dr. Hanyon that it will...sooo, we shall see...I'll make sure to get new pix up soon! Til Friday~

The power of a smile...hehehe...
No, I haven't been back to see Dr. Hanyon yet, but just had to share this one with you! This may sound dramatic, but it's true! I'd swear to it...
Ok...so we know I have the "temporary" caps in place in the front of my mouth...and to just about quote Dr. Hanyon, "They come in one shape, one size, one color..."
Well I went to my neice's birthday party yesterday, and a friend of my was there that I haven't seen in months. She knows that I've been having all this done... We were just standing there chatting and all of a sudden she brokes into tears!!! Immediately I'm thinking about what social faux-pas I could've possibly committed when out of nowhere she's hugging me and exclaiming how beautiful my teeth look!!! I was astounded!!! I couldn't believe she was crying!  All the while I'm trying to tell her, "But they're not done yet!" Lol...at any rate, it was one of the best compliments I've ever received...and to think that we're not even seeing the final product yet, makes me that much more excited to get my permanent caps in...for the first time in my life, I'm smiling without hiding my teeth!!!

So...another half a root canal down...almost...
Just to keep you updated, I went to get another root canal finished...the tricky part comes in when we realize that the roots of said tooth are not exactly straight...whodathunk? I swear! Is it only in my mouth that EVERYTHING, right down to the ROOTS, is screwed up?!?! Lol...naturally, Dr. Hanyon took it in stride and reassured me that this was fixable...but now he wants to wait until the rest of my permanent caps come in so that we can do it all in one shot...the man's a saint! Cause you know as well as I do, that the less one has to be poked with novocaine, the BETTER! Ewww... So anyway, that's where we're at...should only be about another week til the permanents come in and I can't wait!!!

Whew! So while it was definitely one of the longest appointments I've had with Dr. Hanyon (almost 3 hours he was stuck with me!), it was definitely one of the most exciting!!! I got 5 of the permanent caps put in (where there had only been 4 teeth...you do the math...) We finished up one root canal, started another, AND he prepped the left side of my mouth for more permanent caps!!! Holy halibut!
He made me temporary caps for the ones he prepped and I have never been so excited to smile!!! (And we're not even done yet!) I think half my town thinks I'm up to something because I've just been walking around with a smile on my face....for no apparent reason! LOL
Dr. Hanyon told me it'll take about 3 weeks for the rest of the caps to come in, and we're not done yet...but I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! And can honestly say, despite my previous...how shall we put this...LOATHING of dentistry (hey...i said previous...alot has changed)...i can honestly put this experience right up with some of the most amazing things that have happened in my life! I was afraid of the dentist. Seriously afraid. And I'm overcoming that...so can you~
Stay tuned!!!

Say it with me...YAYYYYY! Dr. Hanyon's office called and informed me that some of my permanent caps are in from the lab!!! Appointment set up for tomorrow morning! I'll keep you posted!!!

Heya!!! Just want to give you a quick update…

I’m still seeing Dr. Hanyon on a regular basis, but we hit a bit of a snag…okay…a HUGE snag!!!

When I first went to see Jason, he took x-rays of my entire mouth and discovered what appeared to be quite the sizable infection around the root of one of my front teeth…you see, I had had a root canal done on that tooth about two years ago, and appaaaaaaarently it wasn’t done properly!!! (Note to self & you…go to a RELIABLE dentist who knows what the h-e-double-you-know-what their doing!!!) Come to find out, an infection like this could’ve KILLED me!!! (And no, I’m not being over-dramatic…actually could’ve killed me…yikes!!!) Soooooo….there’s our snag….because, Dr. Jason, being the good, knowledgeable doctor that he is, refuses to put a permanent cap over this tooth until it’s fixed…as it should be!!!!

So anywho…I had to make an appointment with an oral surgeon to have this thing removed!!! I had a procedure known as an apicoectomy and the oral surgeon also (can we say gross!!!) removed the larger than a quarter "cyst" and scraped out the infection…I ended up with a fair few stitches and am working on the healing process…poor Dr. Hanyon…I must’ve called him at least half a dozen times with, "Is this okay?" and, "Is that normal?" And I’ll give him and his staff this…they have patience!!! Every single one of my calls was fielded and returned in a matter of no time!!! It was extremely comforting because I fear I’m a bit of a hypochondriac, and they always answered my questions calmly and with the notion that they actually CARE!!!

But WAIT!!!! It gets better!!! Lol… As Dr. Jason put it, "It’ll all be a piece of cake from here out, because so far, everything that could come up, has." They gave me some pain medication after the surgery, and I took it over the weekend after the surgery…but Sunday rolled around and I said, "Self, you have to be coherent and go to work tomorrow." So I stopped taking it and switched to ibuprofen…TWO days later, I still feel like I just got off the Salt-N-Pepper Shakers at the county fair…so I called Dr. Hanyon and the oral surgeon, and they had me pay a visit to my primary care physician. (My PCP is closer to home and at that point driving distances was a BAAAAAD idea…)

Turns out, I had a condition called Acute Labrynthitis. The surgery had caused inflammation and fluid in my sinuses and ears AND had dislodged the little bones in my ears making me extreeeeemely dizzy…I discovered my equilibrium has a notion to rotate to the left when it’s disturbed…which seems strange, but hey…what can you do?

So…all that being said and done, we are back on the path to me being able to smile a TRUE smile once again J

Stay tuned!!! More to come sooooon!

What’s going on, everyone?!?! I’m Jessica Lee…you’re nighttime host on 105theRiver. I’ve recently embarked on a little journey and I’m hoping you’ll stay with me through it…

Recently, I’ve been lucky enough to come into contact with Dr. Jason Hanyon, of Century Dental Associates….they’re located just off of Route 6 in Eynon…right next to Burlington…
You see, all my life I’ve had problems with my teeth. I mean we’re talking about a string of root canals, pullings, fillings….you name it….all of which were accompanied by horrible visits to a dentist…

Sooooo…you couple bad teeth (soft enamel, flouride deficiency, etc.) with a general fear of dentistry and it turns out to be not such a pretty picture…click here to see for yourself. (I have to warn you though…it’s pretty gross…so I don’t recommend looking if you have recently eaten, or intend to do so within the next half hour or so…)

Believe me now?!?! With teeth like that, it really reduces your quality of life…I’ve learned throughout the years to very strategically make sure that my teeth are not visible when smiling…and with that, you never truly get to smile….which kind of, REALLY sucks!!!

Ok….so I’ve been working with Dr. Jason at Century Dental Associates, and he and his team have COMPLETELY changed my outlook on dentistry. It doesn’t  have to be a horrible, nerve-racking experience…and I know I’m not the only person with this fear…come on…show of hands??? (Ok…you can put your hand down, cause I can’t really see you right now…) But, can you honestly say you enjoy going to the dentist? I NEVER could say that….until now…and I’m serious…I really do look forward to my visits…

So, all-in-all, I guess what I’m trying to say is that I hope that as I work my way through my fear, maybe…hopefully, I can help you too…check back regularly for updates, and in the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me with any questions (whether it’s about what I’m having done or a question you’d like me to pass along to Dr. Jason) email me, at jesikalee10@hotmail.com or you can call Century Dental at 570-876-4488...

I’m Jessica Lee…I’m getting my smile back (Yayyyy!)….and so can YOU!
